Day 1

Keeping teens safe

When you open apps such as QQ or Douyin, do you get a pop-up (弹出窗口) that lets you put the app in "teen mode"? Many apps, especially those for social media and video, have added this feature (功能) to protect teenagers. The Paper says this will give them a better experience and make sure they're using the app in a healthy way. For example, video apps that have this feature might only allow users to watch 40 minutes of video. The videos that they can watch are marked safe and might even be educational (有教育意义的). There are no advertisements and users cannot top up (充值) their accounts (账号) with money. In QQ's teen mode, users can only talk to people who are on their contact (联系人) list. Their chat records show pinyin, which is useful for primary school students. However, teen mode does not work effectively (有效地) for all apps, according to a recent report by the Jiangsu Consumer Council. Some livestreaming (直播) apps have no difference in content (内容) between teen mode and normal mode. And in some video apps, teen mode will start after 40 minutes of viewing time. But users can get past it by clicking "I know" and continue watching.

1. Why are apps adding "teen mode"?A. To give users a better experience.B. To stop teenagers from using the apps.C. To give teenagers a place to study. D. To keep teenagers safe from unhealthy content.

2. When using video apps in "teen mode", teenagers _____.a. can watch whatever videos they wantb. have a limited time to watch videosc. cannot spend money on the appsd. can find educational videosA. abc B. abd C. acd D. bcd

3. The last paragraph shows that _____.A. not every "teen mode" feature works wellB. teenagers don't like to use "teen mode"C. many apps do not have "teen mode"D. "teen mode" protects teenagers well

4. The story is mainly about _____.A. whether "teen mode" is useful or notB. how app developers protect their teenage usersC. the reasons why apps added the "teen mode" featureD. the disadvantages of having "teen mode" on apps

牛津译林版八年级英语上册阅读理解专项强化训练题含答案(二)

In the UK, there is a popular route (道路) for cyclists: the road from Land's End in England to John O'Groats in Scotland. The road is 874 miles (1,407 km) long. It covers almost the full length of Great Britain. The 12-year-old boy named Laurence Chandler became the youngest cyclist to finish the route. Chandler took 20 days to finish the challenge. Each day, he cycled between 40 to 60 miles (64 km to 97 km). He spent six hours on his mountain bike daily. Chandler had to push through rainy and windy days. Cycling uphill was also hard. "It was much harder than I thought. I wasn't expecting (预想) so many hills and how busy the roads were," Chandler said. "But if you put your mind to anything, then no matter how big, you can do it." Chandler first thought of trying the route when he read an article about it two years ago. Later, as his father's 50th birthday came around, he decided to go for it. He was already used to cycling around his village and to school before starting his journey. During his ride, Chandler raised 600 pounds (about 5,200 yuan) for Smile Train. It is a children's charity (慈善组织) that pays for surgery (手术) for children in developing countries (发展中国家) who have cleft lips (兔唇).

2. Paragraph 2 is about _____.A. how Chandler felt about his journeyB. how Chandler got through hard timesC. why Chandler decided to go bikingD. what Chandler did during his trip

3. From Chandler's experience, we know that _____.A. he will cycle the route again in the futureB. he raised some money during his journeyC. he started cycling just two years agoD. he is afraid of cycling up and down hills

4. Chandler might describe his experience as _____.A. challenging B. enjoyable C. dangerous D. relaxing

Day 3

Dare to take risks and learn more about yourself

牛津译林版八年级英语上册阅读理解专项强化训练题含答案(二)

Do you want to try skydiving (高空跳伞) or bungee jumping (蹦极)? Some people enjoy adventurous activities (冒险活动) like these, while others would never say "yes" to them. Vida from the Philippines is the former. She likes zorbing (太空球). In this activity, people climb into a large plastic (塑料的) ball and then roll downhill. Although there is some fear in it, Vida likes the idea of taking risks, as long as it is in a way that is controlled. "There are straps (安全带) and helmets (头盔), so it's not dangerous, in fact. That is how I like to live my life anyway: Take risks, but be smart about them too." Some people also gain independence (独立) and confidence (自信) by doing these adventurous activities. Sarah from the US enjoys bungee jumping. In activities like skydiving, you usually have a professional (专业人员) with you. But in bungee jumping, you do it all by yourself. "It needed me to be brave (勇敢的) enough to get up on that bridge and jump without the help of anyone else," Sarah said. "That feeling of being independent makes it so attractive (有魅力的)."

1. When zorbing, people _____.A. jump from a plane and fall freelyB. play ball games in the skyC. jump off of a bridgeD. roll downhill in a plastic ball

2. What does Vida think about zorbing?A. The activity is too dangerous.B. People need protection to do it.C. There is no need to do it.D. Only smart people can do it.

3. Sarah thinks that _____.A. bungee jumping helps her feel independentB. bungee jumping is too scaryC. adventurous activities can make us more healthy

D. people need confidence to do bungee jumping

4. The story is written to show _____.A. what people can gain from doing adventurous activitiesB. why some people like adventurous activitiesC. what kind of adventurous activities are popular

D. how we should prepare for adventurous activities

Day 4

Funny discoveries awarded

Your eyebrows might tell people something about your personality. Some people have a disorder that makes them hate the sound of chewing. And a knife made out of people's feces (粪便) is not very useful. All of these things sound strange. But scientists are winning international prizes for studying them. The Ig Nobel Prizes, which were first given in 1991, honor (奖励) studies that "first make people laugh, and then think." Ten unusual studies are chosen each year. This year's winners were announced online on Sept 17. Let's take a look at three of them.

Reading our eyebrows A person's eyebrows can tell us whether he or she is a narcissist (自恋者), according to Canadian researchers Miranda Giacomin and Nicholas Rule. They took photos of 39 college students with neutral expressions (中立的表情) and had them fill out a personality test to see how narcissistic they are. Their photos were then shown to people who were asked whether they looked narcissistic or not.? It turns out that people can find narcissists based on their eyebrows. Narcissists are more likely to have dark and dense (浓密的) eyebrows.

Knife made of poop A group of scientists used frozen (冰冻的) human feces to make knives. It's said that an Inuit man once made feces into a frozen knife in order to kill a dog. The scientists gave it a try to see whether it would work. It took them eight days to collect the poop and freeze it into knives. They tested the knives on pork in a room with a temperature of about 10 C. But the knives didn't work well and even melted (融化)! They might try again in colder rooms in the future.

Annoyed by certain sounds Do you ever feel annoyed by the sound of other people chewing food? If so, you might have misophonia (恐音症), a disorder (病症) that has been identified (鉴定) by scientists from the Netherlands. They studied 42 patients and found that 81 percent of them couldn't stand the sound of smacking lips (咂嘴) or chewing. Fifty-nine percent couldn't bear (忍受) the sound of typing (打字) on a keyboard or clicking a pen. However, only sounds that were made by other people annoyed them. Sounds that were made by animals and the patients themselves did not. Scientists believe that this is a new disorder and are making standards (标准) to identify it.
